Before takeoff, the pilots calculate the main speeds, such as V1, VR, and V2, using the aircraft weight, runway condition, and performance data.
During the takeoff roll, the pilot monitoring calls out the speeds while the pilot flying keeps the aircraft on the centerline.
When the aircraft reaches VR, the pilot gently rotates and lifts the nose to start the climb.
As a result, the aircraft lifts off safely and continues climbing at the correct speed.
From a performance standpoint, the crew knows when to lift off because the takeoff speeds have already been worked out before departure.
More specifically, V1, VR, and V2 are based on factors such as aircraft weight, runway length, wind, temperature, and performance limitations.
During the roll, the pilot monitoring calls out the speeds, and once VR is reached, the pilot flying starts to rotate smoothly.
At that point, the aircraft should have built up enough energy to lift off and continue climbing safely at or above V2.
The key point is, rotation is not based on feeling; it is based on calculated speeds, accurate callouts, and proper aircraft handling.

How did you feel after your first solo flight?
At first, I expected my first solo flight to be challenging because I knew I would be alone in the aircraft.
Before the flight, I felt a little nervous, but I trusted my training and followed the procedures.
After landing, I felt relieved, proud, and more confident as a pilot.
In the end, that flight was a very important step in my training and in my confidence.
Looking back, I expected my first solo flight to be demanding, because there would be no instructor beside me to step in.
Initially, I must have been more tense than I realized, since I knew every decision would be my responsibility.
Once I got airborne, I managed to settle down, rely on my training, and focus on flying the aircraft properly.
After touchdown, I felt a strong sense of relief and achievement because I had carried out the flight on my own.
In retrospect, that experience gave me a real confidence boost and made me feel more mature as a pilot.
What can airport authorities do to improve runway safety?
What is your opinion about runway pavements at Brazilian airports?
In general, airport authorities can improve runway safety by keeping the pavement, lights, markings, and signs in good condition.
They should also inspect the runway regularly and remove debris, standing water, or any object that could damage an aircraft.
In my opinion, many Brazilian airports have acceptable runways, but some still need better maintenance, especially during heavy rain.
For this reason, good runway maintenance is essential to reduce risks during takeoff and landing.
From an airport safety perspective, authorities should keep runways well inspected and properly maintained.
Equally important, they should look out for debris, standing water, rubber contamination, and pavement damage.
As far as Brazil is concerned, major airports are usually acceptable, but some regional runways still need improvement.
Under wet conditions, poor pavement or drainage could increase the risk of hydroplaning or runway excursions.
All things considered, runway safety depends on maintenance, quick reporting, and a proactive airport authority.
