EXAMINER OPENING
Ok, shall we start? Part One: Aviation Topics. In this part, you will answer some questions related to aviation.
QUESTION 1.1
In your opinion, what makes a briefing effective?
FOLLOW-UP PROMPT
Please tell me what you do inside the aircraft before a flight.
ICAO 4 MODEL ANSWER
In my opinion, an effective briefing is clear and objective.
The pilot explains the plan for the flight, the main threats and what is expected from each crew member.
It should be short, focused on safety, and adapted to the conditions of the flight, such as weather, airport and aircraft status.
ICAO 5 MODEL ANSWER
For me, an effective briefing is clear, structured and relevant to that specific flight.
It explains the plan, highlights the main risks and confirms roles and expectations.
A good briefing also encourages interaction, so everyone is on the same page before takeoff.
It doesn’t need to be long, but it must be meaningful and focused on safety.
QUESTION 1.2
What was the most difficult situation you have had in a flight?
FOLLOW-UP PROMPT
Do you think you acted in the best way you could?
ICAO 4 MODEL ANSWER
The most difficult situation I had was during climb, when we had an abnormal indication on one of the systems.
We maintained aircraft control, followed the checklist and informed ATC.
We decided to return to the departure airport as a precaution.
The situation was managed safely and the flight landed without further issues.
ICAO 5 MODEL ANSWER
One of the most difficult situations I’ve had was during a flight where the weather had been deteriorating faster than expected.
It could have turned into a serious problem if we had pushed on.
We decided to slow down, set up for a diversion and work through the options.
It might have been manageable to continue, but diverting turned out to be the safest call.
In the end, the situation was brought under control and the flight was completed safely.
QUESTION 1.3
Could you describe the airport you operate at the most?
FOLLOW-UP PROMPT
Tell me about your experience at that airport.
ICAO 5 MODEL ANSWER
The airport I’ve operated at the most is a busy airport with mixed traffic and frequent ATC coordination.
I’ve dealt with high traffic volume there, especially during peak hours, which has required good planning and awareness.
Weather has usually been manageable, but traffic buildup can slow things down, so staying ahead of the aircraft has always been essential.
