Part One: “Aviation Topics”. In this part, you have to answer questions related to aviation. You have one to two minutes for answering each question. Don’t worry if I interrupt you. I’ll tell you when the time is up.
Question 6.1
How did you get interested in aviation?
ICAO 4:
Well, I got interested in aviation since I was a child.
I don’t have anyone from aviation in my family and they couldn’t afford my aviation expenses and I had to persist hardly.
Today I’m a pilot with some experience in Air Taxi and totally available for the aviation industry.
ICAO 5:
Well, I got interested in aviation since I was a kid.
I think I took after the passion for aviation from my grandfather, as he was a retired DC-3 pilot.
He loved taking me to the airport and explaining everything about the planes, procedures, his adventures, and everything in between.
Growing up listening to and receiving all the influences from my grandfather, I ended up deciding to become an airline pilot
Unfortunately, he passed away before I became a pilot.
He had promised to help me afford my training, so I had to work hard to earn money and fund it all by myself, as my parents were unable to lend me a hand in my endeavor.
It took several years for me to get all my licenses.
Question 6.2
When do pilots need to perform a missed approach?
ICAO 4:
Missed approaches have to be done when there are factors making the landing difficult or impossible to happen.
Pilots have to perform a missed approach when the plane is unestablished for the approach or in case of bad weather conditions like windshear, heavy rain, snowfall and dense fog or sometimes due to runway incursion by another aircraft, airport vehicles and animals crossing an active runway.
ICAO 5:
Missed approaches have to be carried out when there are significant scenarios rendering the landing difficult or impossible to happen.
Pilots are required to execute a missed approach procedure when the plane is unstabilized on the final approach.
Furthermore, in case of bad weather conditions like windshear, heavy rain, snowfall, dense fog or any other natural phenomena.
In addition, sometimes due to runway incursion by another aircraft, airport vehicles and even animals crossing an active runway.
ICAO 5:
Typically, pilots are required to carry out a missed approach procedure when the plane becomes destabilized during the final approach, often due to adverse weather conditions such as windshear, heavy rain, snowfall, dense fog or any other natural phenomena which renders the safe landing impossible.
Furthermore, missed approaches can take place in case a runway incursion, when another aircraft, airport vehicles, or even animals cross an active runway.
Moreover, in my opinion, Missed Approach is a paramount procedure which demands prompt and precise decision-making, outstanding airmanship, and a deep understanding of the published procedure and situation awareness.
Question 6.3
Are airlines pilots trained to use Standard phraseology in English?
ICAO 4:
Yes, they are, but this really happens when they start international flights. They practise as they fly being watched by captains.
The company applies some adaptations before it happens.
If they climbed operational or advanced ICAO Level, it means they are qualified for international communications using phraseology.
ICAO 5:
Yes they are!
As far as I know, Airline pilots are trained to use standard phraseology in English as part of their training and operational procedures.
Standard phraseology in english, is a set of predefined, concise, and precise phrases and terms that are used in the international aviation communication.
Furthermore, it brings about a clear and effective communication between pilots and air traffic controllers worldwide.
The use of standard phraseology in english, helps to enhance the communication efficiency, minimize misunderstandings, and ensure a common understanding between pilots and ATC abroad.
Overall, the use of standard phraseology in English is an important aspect of pilot training.
